Nigerian ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ governor's sister made 'Commissioner of Happiness' ๐Ÿ‘

A Nigerian governor has created a new role for his sister - as commissioner for happiness and couples' fulfilment.

Rochas Okorocha unveiled the post during the swearing in of 27 other new commissioners for Imo State.
It is not the first questionable decision the governor has made in recent times. Earlier this year, he unveiled a statue dedicated to South African President Jacob Zuma - a man who has no apparent links to the south-eastern state.

It is not clear exactly what Mr Okorocha's sister Ogechi Ololo will do now she has been sworn in.
She was previously her brother's chief of staff, as well as being special advisor on domestic matters.
However, Mr Okorocha has warned she - and all his other commissioners - need to take their new roles seriously to help the regional authorities achieve their "vision".
"We shall not tolerate any sharp practice or corruption of any type," he told those gathered at Monday's ceremony, according to Nigeria's Daily Post newspaper. "Neither shall we accept indolence or laziness."

China ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ fuels macadamia nut boom ๐Ÿ‘ in South Africa

The lush Limpopo Valley region of South Africa is known as a haven of exotic wildlife and fruit trees.

But the traditional crops of guava and avocado are making way for more popular produce: macadamia nuts.
South Africa has swiftly become one of the world's leading producers of the nut. Production rose from 3,000 tons in 1996 to over 40,000 tons in 2015, and almost 4,000 hectares of new trees are added each year.
The vast majority of the nuts are exported, and increasingly it is China that is fueling the boom, buying up 40% of the total haul according to China's National Industry Association (CSNC).
Demand for macadamias has been particularly strong in the special administrative region of Hong Kong.
"In the last seven years that we purchased macadamia nuts we have had growth of around 25% every year," Ben Chan, purchasing supervisor at Hong Kong-based retailer HK JEBN, told CNN.

Ireland ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช forced to collect Apple's ๐ŸŽ disputed €13bn tax bill

Ireland is to comply with a European Commission order to collect a disputed €13bn tax bill from the US firm Apple.

The Irish Finance Ministry said in a statement: "These sums will be placed into an escrow fund with the proceeds being released only when there has been a final determination in the European Courts over the validity of the Commission's Decision."

An Apple spokesperson said the company was confident the General Court would overturn the Commission's decision: "The Commission's case against Ireland has never been about how much Apple pays in taxes, it's about which government gets the money.

Ireland's reluctance to collect the taxes from Apple is partly because it believes it may damage its reputation as an investment destination which has attracted multi-national companies such as Apple, Intel and Pfizer.

At the time, Ms Vestager said that Ireland had given Apple "selective treatment" enabling it to "pay substantially less tax than other businesses over many years."
