Never acknowledged the existence of Arunachal Pradesh, says China*

*Never acknowledged the existence of Arunachal Pradesh, says China*

China on Wednesday did not mince its words when it said it had “never acknowledged” the existence of Arunachal Pradesh even as it kept mum over a media report that its troops intruded into the Indian side of the border in the frontier state. Geng Shuang, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, had made the statement after a media report stated that Chinese troops intruded into the Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh for about 200 meters close to a village in upper Siang district.

In a statement to media persons, Geng was quoted as saying by PTI: “First of all on the border issue our position is clear and consistent. We never acknowledged the existence of so-called Arunachal Pradesh. For the specific situation you mentioned, I am not aware of it.” China claims Arunachal Pradesh is part of South Tibet. The India-China border dispute covered 3,488 km along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

According to the report, the Chinese troops who reportedly crossed over with the construction machinery last month were stopped by Indian soldiers. The Chinese troops reportedly left the construction equipment behind. “I want to mention that between China and India there is a well-developed mechanism for border-related affairs. Through this mechanism, China and India could manage the border affairs. Maintaining peace and stability at the border suits both China and India,” Geng was quoted as saying by PTI.

*Ozil yet to make decision on future as Arsenal start contract talks*

Arsenal finally opened talks with Mesut Ozil's representative last month over a contract extension but the German star has yet to make a decision on his future, as per reports.

The Gunners are confident that Ozil will not sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January, with Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere in the same position as their contracts also expire in the summer.

Talks over a renewal for Ozil were put on hold back in February last year due to the uncertainty surrounding manager Arsene Wenger’s own contract situation. However, when the Frenchman renewed his deal by a further two years at the end of May, there was no decision taken to resume talks with any of the aforementioned trio.

The club didn't put their first formal offer on the table to Ozil's representative until December - a delay of almost 10 months - while Wilshere has also yet to be offered a contract , despite Wenger claiming there is a difference in financial terms between club and player.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have all shown varying levels of interest in Ozil, who has four goals and five assists in 17 Premier League games this season.

Earth and Moon in NASA

It is a unique view of our planet from a spacecraft speeding to a rendezvous with an asteroid. NASA's OSIRIS-REx spacecraft took this incredible image of home from 3 million miles (5 million kilometres from Earth, about 13 times the distance between the Earth and Moon.

Asteroid Bennu, a carbon-rich hunk of rock that might contain organic materials or molecular precursors to life. The Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, and Security–Regolith Explorer—is to map and return samples.

It is also an asteroid that could someday make a close pass or even a collision with Earth, though not for several centuries. The OSIRIS-Rex spacecraft is expected to reach its asteroid destination, Bennu, in August 2018.

*Manchester City 3 Watford 1: Sterling inspires leaders back to winning ways πŸ“Ή*

Raheem Sterling scored the fastest Premier League goal of the season to help Manchester City to a 3-1 win over Watford at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

The England international netted after only 39 seconds, before a Christian Kabasele own goal and a second-half finish from Sergio Aguero saw Pep Guardiola's side move 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League, with Andre Gray's late effort counting for little.

City's record 18-game winning run came to an end in a goalless draw at Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve and Guardiola took no chances with his line-up, with Kevin De Bruyne – passed fit after being hurt at Selhurst Park – joined by the returning David Silva in midfield, while John Stones made his first appearance since November at the heart of the defence.

Watford were looking for a response to their dramatic defeat to Swansea City but some slack defending in the first minute saw them fall behind and they rarely threatened a comeback from then on.

Kabesele's unfortunate own goal sapped the morale from the visitors, who have now lost six of their last seven league games, and the encounter turned into little more than a training exercise for the home side, with Aguero scoring his 13th top-flight goal of the season midway through the second half before Gray's consolation.

*Peru Pasamayo: Dozens killed as coach plunges off cliff*

At least 48 people have been killed after a coach plummeted 100m (330ft) down a cliff and landed upside down on a beach in Peru, officials say. The health ministry said six people had survived the accident, one of whom had jumped from the bus before it fell. The accident happened on a notorious stretch of road known as Curva del Diablo (devil's bend) in Pasamayo, north of the capital Lima.

The coach, with more than 50 people on board, collided with a lorry. Transit police said the lorry driver had been detained for questioning. The bus, which belongs to the San MartΓn de Porres transport company, was travelling to Lima from Huacho, about 130km (80 miles) north of the capital.

The stretch of road winding alongside the Pacific Ocean where the accident happened is considered one of the most dangerous in Peru. It has no barriers separating it from a sheer drop to the ocean and the sea spray and frequent fog can make it particularly slippery.

*Philippe Coutinho to miss FA Cup game against Everton with thigh injury*

Philippe Coutinho will miss the FA Cup third-round derby against Everton on Friday as he continues to receive treatment on a thigh injury.

Liverpool’s influential playmaker, who hopes to join Barcelona this month, missed the New Year’s Day win at Burnley through injury and the manager, JΓΌrgen Klopp, said afterwards that the Brazil international was “at least a doubt” for the FA Cup tie at Anfield. Liverpool are now resigned to being without Coutinho against their Merseyside rivals, however, with the 25-year-old continuing to feel the effects of the thigh problem.

Coutinho was at Melwood on Wednesday to receive further treatment on his thigh. Mohamed Salah, who also missed the Burnley win and will travel with Sadio ManΓ© to Ghana for the African Footballer of the Year awards on Thursday, remains a doubt.

Liverpool are braced for a new offer from the Spanish league leaders for the Brazilian but it will take a figure of around £130m for the Anfield club to consider his transfer. A deal could be agreed this month that would allow Coutinho to realise his wish of a move to Barcelona in the summer, but the player’s preference is for a January transfer.
