*Caruana Galizia case: Malta ex-corruption investigator fears for life*

A former anti-corruption investigator in Malta has told BBC Newsnight he fears for his life after looking into allegations made by murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Jonathan Ferris is seeking full police protection amid concerns he could be targeted after looking into her claims against top political figures. Caruana Galizia was killed in a car bomb near her home on 16 October.

She was known for a blog in which she accused powerful figures of corruption. Prosecutors are looking into the possibility that her murder was carried out by hitmen on the orders of someone angered by her reporting. The Maltese government has vowed to bring her killers to justice and offered a €1m (£890,000; $1.2m) reward for information.

One of the investigations Caruana Galizia was working on at the time of her death centred on allegations against the Maltese prime minister's chief of staff, Keith Schembri, and a senior minister called Konrad Mizzi. Caruana Galizia said they were both financial beneficiaries of secretive "shell" companies registered in Panama.

Updated: 20 hours ago

It has been reported that a 45-year-old farmer identified as John Ulaha got his mother-in-law pregnant in Nasarawa state. The woman is 42 years old.
According to reports, 42-year-old Ashetu Igbasue and her son-in-law started their relationship in September 2017, when she relocated to Awe, Nasarawa to harvest her farm produce.
Igbasue disclosed to Daily Trust that their relationship started at the farm but on getting home that night, they made love. This act continued daily till she became pregnant three months after.

42-year-old Igbasue said: “I agreed to his demand and thought it was just to satisfy his sexual feelings, but somehow, it became a daily thing. I never thought I could get pregnant due to my age. I told my daughter the truth so that we can get a solution to it and out of anger she went public with it. The whole thing was a temptation and I completely regret it. I have pleaded for forgiveness from her. ”
Speaking on what led to the affair, 45-year-old Ulaha disclosed that his mother-in-law tempted him and as a man, he could not resist the temptations.
He said: “ She would always sit with barely clothes on before me. At first, it was embarrassing to me. But I later discovered that her actions were an open invitation and as a man I was tempted at a point and that led to something else. And we both continued in that order until our actions resulted in pregnancy .”

Ulaha’s wife, Victoria disclosed that she is not ready to quit the marriage even though what her mother and husband did was shameful. She also added that her mother would have no chouce but to terminate the pregnancy.
Victoria said: “It would have been better for him to get a second wife who will be stationed at home or even look for a girlfriend to satisfy him in my absence rather than going into a love affair with my own mother. It is a very shameful thing and an abomination of the highest order, it is wrong.”

*Somaliland passes first law against rape

*Somaliland passes first law against rape

For the first time in its history, the self-declared republic of Somaliland has passed a law against rape.

In the past, a victim's family could force them to marry their rapist to avoid being shamed.

Rapists now stand to face at least 30 years in prison.

Somaliland declared itself independent from Somalia in 1991 but is not internationally recognised as a country. There is still no law against rape in Somalia.
Somaliland's speaker of parliament, Bashe Mohamed Farah, told the BBC that rape cases have risen and he hoped the new law would help stop that trend.

"Nowadays we have seen even people carrying out gang rapes," he said. "The main emphasis of the new act is to completely stop rape."

The new law has come in after years of lobbying by children and women's rights advocates.

Burning tanker off Chinese coast 'in danger of exploding'*

*Burning tanker off Chinese coast 'in danger of exploding'*

There are fears of an environmental disaster in the East China Sea as a tanker continues leaking oil two days after colliding with a cargo ship. Chinese officials have told state media the Sanchi is in danger of exploding and sinking.

Rescuers trying to reach the burning tanker were beaten back by toxic clouds, the transport ministry says. The body of one crewman, among the 30 Iranians and two Bangladeshis on board, has been found. The rest are missing. The exact cause of the collision is not yet known.

The tanker, run by Iran's leading oil shipping operator, has onboard 136,000 tonnes of condensate, which is an ultra-light version of crude oil. Condensate is very different from the black crude that is often seen in oil spills. It exists in gas form within high-pressure oil reservoirs and liquefies once extracted. It is highly toxic, low in density and considerably more explosive than regular crude oil.
