Walcott agrees £20 million transfer to Everton*

*Walcott agrees £20 million transfer to Everton*
Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is on the verge of signing for Everton for a fee of £20m, according to reports.
The Gunners' longest-serving player has scored 108 goals for the club but has found game time difficult to come by this season in a year when he is desperate to be included in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the World Cup in Russia.
Everton offered the most attractive financial package to Walcott amid interest from fellow Premier League side West Ham, and is due to undergo a medical on Tuesday afternoon and could be included in Sam Allardyce's squad for Saturday's Premier League game at home to West Brom.
The proceeds from the 28-year-old's sale, which could rise to £25m with add-ons, will go towards Arsenal's efforts to sign Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux and West Brom centre-back Jonny Evans.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will not sanction the sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United until they have agreed to sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a replacement.
Arsenal's pursuit of Mkhitaryan hinges on whether the attacker is paid off by United due to his contract running for another two years, Goal understands.

Impressive Rafael Nadal cruises into second round of Australian Open

Impressive Rafael Nadal cruises into second round of Australian Open*
Rafael Nadal answered doubts about his fitness in emphatic fashion as he began his Australian Open campaign with a thumping win over Victor Estrella Burgos.
The world number one came into the tournament without having played a warm-up event following knee problems at the end of last season.
But he was anything but rusty as he raced to a 6-1 6-1 6-1 win in just an hour and 34 minutes.
Veteran Estrella Burgos was not expected to provide too much of a challenge to Nadal and so it proved.
The 37-year-old from the Dominican Republic earned a rousing reception when, after a long game, he broke the Nadal serve to avoid losing the second set to love.
But it was simply a minor detour for Nadal who, in his first match since his uncle Toni stopped travelling as his coach, could barely have asked for a better outing.

Manchester United closed the gap between themselves a

Manchester United closed the gap between themselves and Premier League leaders Manchester City to 12 points with a -wiin over struggling Stoke City at Old Trafford.
Manchester City were beaten in the top flight for the first time this season on Sunday, at Liverpool, and United's victory, along with reports they are set to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez at the expense of their neighbours, means there is a fleeting instance this term of the bragging rights residing on the red side of town.
Stoke, with newly appointed manager Paul Lambert watching from the https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/f8d/1/16/1f3df.png🏟stands, acquitted themselves well and carved out some clear first-half chances, only for Antonio Valencia and Anthony Martial to breach the Premier League's most porous defense with fabulous first-half finishes, while Paul Pogba was influential in the hosts' midfield.
Martial and Juan Mata passed up chances to compound the Potters' misery after the break, meaning Romelu Lukaku's 72nd-minutehttps://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/fb5/1/16/23f1.png third goal felt wholly inevitable, as thoughts began to turn towards the Belgian's prospective new strike partner

Chelsea interested in signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January

Chelsea interested in signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January*
Chelsea are interested in signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Antonio Conte rates the forward highly, and revealed last Friday that he tried to sign the then Udinese player when he was Juventus manager.
Chelsea are yet to make a formal offer for Sanchez, but they do have a history of flying under the radar when it comes to signing players.
They bought Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013 when he was poised to join their London rivals Tottenham.
The news comes on the same day Manchester City pulled out of the race for Sanchez due to their belief the deal had become too expensive.
Manchester United, however, are still interested in the 29-year-old, and Sky Sports News understands they are willing to pay Sanchez more than £350,000 per week if he were to move to Old Trafford.

*Pope feels 'pain and shame' over Chile sex abuse scandal*

Pope Francis has said he feels "pain and shame" over a sex abuse scandal which has rocked the Catholic Church in Chile. The Pope also asked the victims of sexual abuse committed by priests for forgiveness.
He made the remarks during his first official address in Chile. The Pope had been criticised in Chile for his decision to ordain a bishop who is accused of covering up sexual abuse committed by a priest.
Pope Francis has said in the past that dealing with abuse is vital for the Church's credibility, and that "sanctions" must be imposed against perpetrators.
But critics in Chile say he failed to respond to their request to review the appointment of Juan Barros as bishop of Osorno. Parishioners in the southern Chilean city say Bishop Barros used his position in the Catholic Church to try to block an investigation into the actions of his mentor, Catholic priest Fernando Karadima.
