Alexis Sanchez scored his first Manchester United goal as they bounced back from defeat to Tottenham by cruising to a straightforward 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town.
Jose Mourinho caused a stir by dropping Paul Pogba - who was hauled off in the 2-0 loss at Spurs - for Huddersfield's visit and, while his absence was notable in midfield, United rarely looked like dropping points at Old Trafford.
The hosts were dominant throughout the first half and should have been given a penalty when Scott McTominay – Pogba's replacement – was barged into by Terence Kongolo.
Clear-cut chances were something of a rarity before the break, however, as United's play suffered because of a lack of width caused by Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Sanchez – making his home debut – all wanting to occupy central positions.
When United did alter their system in order to exploit the flanks, the breakthrough eventually arrived – Mata crossing to Lukaku for a neat, near-post finish in the 55th minute.
Sanchez then wrapped things up 22 minutes from time, tucking home after his initial penalty was saved to get off the mark for United, who cut Manchester City's emphatic lead to 13 points following the latter's 1-1 draw with Burnley.

US says Russia 'developing' undersea nuclear-armed torpedo*

*US says Russia 'developing' undersea nuclear-armed torpedo*
In its newly released Nuclear Posture Review, the Defense Department has focused much of its multi-billion nuclear effort on an updated nuclear deterrence focused on Russia. "Russia considers the United States & NATO to be the principal threats to its contemporary geopolitical ambitions," the report says.
"The Defense Intelligence Agency currently estimates Russia has a stockpile of 2,000 "non-strategic" nuclear weapons including short-range ballistic missiles, gravity bombs and depth charges that can go on medium range bomber aircraft," according to the report. "DIA also estimates Russia has nuclear-armed anti-ship, anti-submarine missiles and torpedoes. What do they need nuclear depth charges for?" one US official asked.
President Donald Trump highlighted the importance of the review's conclusions Friday in a written statement. "Over the past decade, despite United States efforts to reduce the roles and numbers of nuclear weapons, other nuclear nations grew their stockpiles, increased the prominence of nuclear weapons in their security strategies, and -- in some cases -- pursued the development of new nuclear capabilities to threaten other nations," Trump said.

Syria war: Outcry over 'mutilated' female Kurdish fighter

: *Syria war: Outcry over 'mutilated' female Kurdish fighter*
Kurds in Syria have reacted furiously to videos showing Turkish-backed rebels abusing the body of a female Kurdish fighter killed in battle. Barin Kobani was part of all-female unit challenging a Turkish-led offensive in north-west Syria. Kurdish officials accused fighters allied with Turkey of "playing with her corpse" and mutilating it. Last month, Turkish troops and allied Syrian rebels launched a campaign to capture the Kurdish-held Afrin region.
Barin Kobani was killed during fighting earlier this week in the northern part of the region, reports say. She was in her mid-20s, and joined the Kurdish all-female unit known as the YPJ in 2015. The group is part of the YPG (People's Protection Units), seen by Turkey as a terrorist group and an extension of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has fought for Kurdish autonomy in south-eastern Turkey for three decades.
Two videos emerged earlier this week, and the woman was soon identified as Barin Kobani. The footage shows a group of rebels standing around the bloodied body of a woman lying on the ground. Parts of her torso appear to have been cut. "We hold the Turkish government responsible for this heinous act," Kurdish-led authorities said. One unconfirmed report claimed she had been captured alive before being killed. Turkey has not publicly commented on the issue.

Italy Macerata drive-by attack: Foreigners targeted, say police

: *Italy Macerata drive-by attack: Foreigners targeted, say police
At least six people have been wounded in a series of drive-by shootings in a town in central Italy, and one man has been arrested, police say. All of those hurt in the attacks in Macerata were foreigners, they said. The suspect had an Italian flag wrapped around his neck when he was detained, amid indications that the attack may have been racially motivated.
The mayor warned people to stay indoors because of the incident, with shootings reported across different locations. The victims are being treated in hospital. At least one of them is said to be in a serious condition. Police said all those targeted were foreigners and local media said they were black immigrants.
The shooting began at 11:00 local time (10:00 GMT), La Repubblica website reports, and the gunman was captured two hours later, after fleeing the car - a black Alfa Romeo - on foot near the town's war memorial.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬Nigeria’s Top Judge Charged with Bribery*

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬Nigeria’s Top πŸ‘¨‍Judge Charged with BriberyπŸ‘Ή*
Nigeria's top judge handling corruption cases against public officials has himself been charged with bribery, court papers showed Saturday. Danladi Umar was accused by the country's anti-graft body EFCC of demanding 10 million naira (22,300 euros; $27,800) from a suspect "for a favour to be afterwards shown to him in relation to the pending charge", according to court papers seen by AFP.
The embattled judge was also alleged to have received in 2012, through his personal assistant, the sum of 1.8 million naira from the same accused "in connection with the pending case before him", the papers revealed. Umar, who chairs the Code of Conduct tribunal, last year cleared Senate president Bukola Saraki of corruption charges linked to his time as a state governor.
Doubts about Umar's integrity grew further when the Senate president was cleared in June 2017 of the charges against him. The EFCC appealed the ruling and in December, a panel of judges ordered a retrial of three of the 18 charges initially brought against Saraki, Nigeria's third-ranking politician after the president and vice-president. The case has been one of the most high-profile prosecutions since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in 2015, vowing to end graft and impunity at the highest level.
