S-Africa ๐Ÿ‘ฎPolice Raid Gupta Family Home
An elite South African police unit has sealed off roads around the home of businessmen friends of President Jacob Zuma in Johannesburg, a Reuters witness said. Police spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi was not immediately available for comment, but the state broadcaster quoted him as saying police were there as part of a raid. The broadcaster, SABC, added that two people were arrested in the early morning raid.
Members of the Gupta family are accused by the country's anti-corruption watchdog of using their friendship with Zuma to amass wealth. Both the Guptas and Zuma deny any wrongdoing.
Zuma was asked by the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to step down as head of state this week. Officials said that Zuma was expected to respond on Wednesday to the order from the ruling party. Zuma's nine years in office has been dogged by scandals and a stagnant economy.

Over 53,000 Ghanaian illegal migrants still in Libya – Report
A report from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has revealed that about 53, 200 illegal Ghanaian migrants are still in Libya. This revelation comes months after some 127 Ghanaian detainees were rescued from Libya, following reports that Africans there had been subjected to inhumane treatment after giving away their life’s earnings, to make the torturous journeys through the Sahara, hoping to make it big in Europe.
The IOM’s report also ranked Ghana as one of the countries with the highest number of illegal migrants in Libya. Out of the 12 countries ranked, Ghana came 5th with a total of 31, 251 migrants in Libya, followed by Nigeria which had a total of 29,605 migrants, and Mali with 24, 105 migrants.
Niger topped the list of countries with 78,723 migrants followed by Egypt, which had a total of 78,616 migrants in Libya. "There have always been adventurous Ghanaians who would go out and try their luck in other parts of the world but the periods of economic collapse turned our country into places of wholesale emigration," the President noted.

Zuma Calls ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆS-African ๐ŸŒฟANC๐ŸŒฟ's Push for Him to Resign`Unfair
South African President Jacob Zuma said the push by his ruling party for him to resign is “unfair,” in his first television interview since the African National Congress decided to replace him as the nation’s leader.
“I found it in a sense very unfair to me that this issue has been raised all the time,” Zuma, 75, told the South African Broadcasting Corp. Wednesday. “I need to be furnished on what I have done. Unfortunately, no one has been able to provide what is it exactly that I have done.”
A statement from President Jacob Zuma appeared imminent on Wednesday as a TimesLIVE reporter witnessed an SABC crew being summoned to the president's official residence in Pretoria. The reporter said an SABC reporter had received a phone call while waiting outside the Union Buildings and was told to be on a standby for a recording with Zuma. The SABC reporter and a cameraman being escorted into the residence by a police officer, while another stood guard outside.

NBA coach Gregg Popovich says America is a 'racist country'
Gregg Popovich has never shied away from speaking his mind. So its no surprise that the legendary coach of the San Antonio Spurs, a winner of five NBA titles, had a strong response when asked why it's important for the league to celebrate Black History Month.
"I think it's pretty obvious. Our league is made up of a lot of black guys," Popovich told reporters Monday before the Spurs took on the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. "To honor that and understand it is pretty simplistic. How would you ignore that? More importantly, we live in a racist country that hasn't figured it out yet.
"It's always important to bring attention to it, even if it angers some people. The point is, you have to keep it in front of everybody's nose and understand that it still hasn't been taken care of and we still have a lot of work to do." It's not the first time Popovich has been outspoken about race or politics, especially about President Donald Trump:

Tanzanian Opposition Leader 'Murdered' After Kidnap Ordeal
Tanzanian opposition party leader Daniel John was on Wednesday found beaten to death after men bundled him into a car. According to AFP, party chairman Freeman Mbowe said the official opposition leader in Tanzanian parliament had been kidnapped. According to the party official, John's body was later delivered to a hospital, with machete wounds to the head. "Daniel John was kidnapped on Monday in the street by men in a car," Mbowe said.
Mbowe said a friend of John, who was kidnapped at the same time but survived the attack, described what happened. "He said they were beaten and tortured, and the attackers asked them why they were campaigning for Chadema's candidate." John was in charge of the Chadema party in Hananasif district, Dar es Salaam. An election campaign is ongoing in the region.
Mbowe, however, accused supporters of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party of being behind the attack. He accused the ruling party of "wanting to get everything by force."
