Facebook Used 😱 to 'Incite Offline Violence' πŸ’₯ in Myanmar πŸ‡²πŸ‡², says report*

Facebook has said it agrees with a report that found it had failed to prevent its platform being used to "incite offline violence" in Myanmar.

The independent report, commissioned by Facebook, said the platform had created an "enabling environment" for the proliferation of human rights abuse.

It comes after widespread violence against the Rohingya minority which the UN has said may amount to genocide.

The report said Facebook would have to "get it right" before 2020 elections.

Facebook has more than 18 million users in Myanmar. For many, the social media site is their main or only way of getting and sharing news.

The network said it had made progress in tackling its problems in Myanmar but that there was "more to do".

*Colorado Elects πŸ‘ First Openly Gay Governor in US πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ History*

Colorado elected the first openly gay governor in US history on Tuesday.

Democrat Jared Polis, a congressman from the state’s second district, received 51 percent of the vote compared with state treasurer Walker Stapleton’s 45 percent.

Polis mentioned his support for gay rights on the campaign trail.

“I think it really gives Colorado an opportunity to stick a thumb in the eye of Mike Pence, whose view of America is not as inclusive as where America is today,” Polis said during a speech this year.

Polis is the first gay person elected to the position. Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey came out as gay while in office in 2004.

*Loss of U.S. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ House leaves Republicans More Tied to Trump than Ever❗*

Republicans’ loss of control of the U.S. House of Representatives will leave the party with a more conservative congressional caucus that is even more bound to President Donald Trump and more united around his provocative rhetoric and hardline agenda.

Although moderate Republicans who remain in the House may view the result as an indictment of Trump’s strategy of focusing relentlessly on illegal immigration in the final stretch of the campaign, they will be a small minority.

Major U.S. TV networks projected Democrats would take control of the House while Republicans would retain the majority in the Senate.

Many Republicans who lost their seats were moderates from suburban-heavy districts who tried to keep some distance from Trump and his rhetoric, but lost anyway. That leaves a shrunken core dominated by conservatives from rural areas whose constituents overwhelmingly support Trump.

In short, Trump will stay Trump. Although some Republicans may blame him for Tuesday’s losses, they are unlikely to be emboldened to rebel, especially given that the party kept control of the Senate.

*Nigerians Will😱 ‘Shock’ Buhari, Atiku –πŸ”Š Presidential Candidate, Fasua*

Presidential candidate of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, ANRP, Tope Fasua, has said Nigerians are ready to spring surprises against the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Bubari, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2019 presidential poll.

Fasua, who is currently on a trip overseas, stated this on Tuesday in a telephone interview with DAILY POST.

He said despite the conflicting predictions by various US think-tank groups in favour of Buhari and Atiku, the hardships in the country had pushed Nigerians to the point where they were willing to make revolutionary decisions with their votes.

The ANRP presidential candidate also said that the nation’s poor records on key development indices were brought about by the activities of the duo while acting in their capacities as sitting president and erstwhile vice-president, respectively.

His words: “I will say it is sad that these international agencies (the Economist, HSBC, and USIP) are pushing Nigerians to choose between the status quo, and the status quo ante.

“None of these bodies mean well for Nigerians because these are the same people who have effectively wrecked the Nigerian society and economy. I believe they are smarter than making such calls.

“The decision is left for Nigerians to take and I believe there will be upsets and surprised because we have reached an inflection point at which a revolutionary decision should be taken.

“Nigerian economy is dead today and disunity has never been this bad. We are officially the poorest nation on earth and the most unequal with 13.2million children walking around all over the nayion and especially from the zone where the two characters they are pushing hails from."

*Nigerian GovtπŸ“² Goes Digital on Public✨ Procurement*

The Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, has said it will now utilize digital technology in all procurement in order to deepen its current reforms.

BPP’s Director General, Mamman Ahmadu, stated this on Tuesday at a database workshop organized by the bureau in Abuja for contractors, consultants and service providers (CCSP).

He explained that the digitization of Nigeria’s public procurement process would allow for more participation, efficiency, and transparency toward ensuring the country achieved desired results.

“Nigeria has also joined the rest of the world to ensure that the best global practices in public procurement process is strictly adhered by going digital in order to allow for more participation, efficiency and transparency towards ensuring that the public procurement reform receives the needed attention and delivers ultimately for the good of the country,” Ahmadu said.

He further said that the Public Procurement Act (PPA, 2007) prescribed the need for the regular categorisation of data on CCSPs in order to enhance specialization, high performance and reduction in the cost of tendering in public procurement.

Speaking also, the Minister of State for Works, Suleiman Hassan Zarma, stressed the critical nature of the latest categorisation matrix for CCSPs; adding that it will not only allow for a more robust participation of all stakeholders but also give room for specialization.

He also mentioned the need to ensure local contractors are also considered in the matrix due to their basic role in the infrastructural development process of the country.
