*Diane Rwigara๐Ÿ™… Defiant as Treason⚖ Trial Looms*

Rwanda is "like a prison" with Paul Kagame its imperious warden, according to Diane Rwigara, a young politician who sought to challenge for the presidency and whose treason trial begins Wednesday.

The 37-year-old, who was released on bail in October, struck a defiant tone speaking to AFP ahead of her trial for treason, insurrection and forgery.

"I just came out of a prison but my country still feels like a prison. And the prison guard is none other than the ruling party... dictating to us how to live, what to do and what to say," she said in an interview at her home in the capital Kigali.

"I was not surprised by my arrest. I was kind of expecting it because of what I was doing in the country: if you dare criticise the government that is what happens, you get arrested, imprisoned or lose your life. I expected some form of retaliation."

Victoire Ingabire, another woman who sought to run for the presidency in 2010, was blocked from competing, arrested, tried and spent six years in jail before her release in September.

*79 Abducted⛓ Pupils Freed๐Ÿ™ in Troubled Cameroon Region:๐Ÿ”Š Minister*

Seventy-nine school pupils abducted by gunmen this week in a troubled English-speaking region of Cameroon have been freed, the country's communications minister told AFP Wednesday (Nov 7).

"All 79 students have been released," said Issa Bakary Tchiroma, without giving details of the circumstances under which they were set free.

The kidnappings on Monday were the first such mass abductions seen in Cameroon and coincide with an upsurge of political tensions in the majority French-speaking country.

The students were enrolled at the Presbyterian Secondary School in Bamenda, capital of Cameroon's Northwest Region - one of two areas where surging anglophone separatist militancy has been met with a brutal crackdown by authorities.

Their release comes a day after Cameroon's 85-year-old President Paul Biya was sworn in for a seventh term in office.

Biya has promised to pursue policies of decentralisation to address "frustrations and aspirations" in English-speaking regions.

A six-minute video seen by AFP on Monday, but which could not be confirmed independently, showed 11 boys apparently aged about 15 giving their identity and name of the school in English, and adding that they were abducted by the "Amba Boys" - a name for anglophone separatists.

ASUU STRIKE CALLED OFF

*ASUU STRIKE CALLED OFF!*

congratulations to all university students, just about an hour ago the ASUU chairman broke the announcement, which is
considered a big one for all university students. After calling
off the strike, the media went ahead to ask if the federal
government has met the demands of ASUU.

Out of dismay, the ASUU chairman shook his head and said he was disappointed with the media more than he his with the FG, saying the media formed a deaf ear to the strike, that an average Nigerian does not know that universities are on strike. He condemned the media's lack of publicity. After expressing his anger he went ahead to say that the Government is doing nothing concerning our demands, even
after a closed door meeting with the education minister where the President said he has so manyi ssues to deal with now than to start spending more money on universities.

After the meeting however, the chairman of the newly formed party APC called the chairman of ASUU to a meeting with ACN, CPC, and the AFGAN governor who promised ASUU that they would give ear to ASUU's demand and will do more. one of which every student will be given a bursary award which is to cover 50% of every student fee, that is, for spending 5 years in the universities. 2 years fee would be paid by FG, and every student who graduates with first class would stand a chance to do their masters in canada, while
those with lower credit and pass would continue their study in South Africa and Ghana respectively. Also, salary of VC's would be increased by 90%.

After this meeting, the ASUU chairman called off the strike asking all students to resume at their various schools on the first week of June 2015, that about 2 years time, of course after voting in ACP.

Its so sad that we have to sit down to read all this, Hopefully, The Asuu strike should be called of in____________________ weeks time.

*๐Ÿ—ณUS MId-Term Elections Update

Democrats have taken back control of the House of Representatives but not won a majority in the Senate as the historic “blue wave” they hoped for failed to materialise at the midterm elections.

The achievement means that the Republicans no longer hold both wings of the US Congress, handing Donald Trump’s political opponents a stronger foothold in Washington from which to oppose his presidency.

The Democrats now have the numbers to veto Mr Trump’s proposed laws in the House and launch a string of damaging investigations into his administration through the committees they will control.

However in the Senate it was a different story, with Republicans unseating a string of Democratic senators up for re-election in states Mr Trump won in 2016. It indicates many of the president's supporters are still with him two years into office.

Here are the seat update right now:

🔰SENATE

Seats declared: 96/100

Republican Party: 51

Democratic Party: 45

🔰HOUSE

Seats declared: 412/435

Republican Party: 193

Democratic Party: 219

*Colorado Elects ๐Ÿ‘ First Openly Gay Governor in US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ History*

Colorado elected the first openly gay governor in US history on Tuesday.

Democrat Jared Polis, a congressman from the state’s second district, received 51 percent of the vote compared with state treasurer Walker Stapleton’s 45 percent.

Polis mentioned his support for gay rights on the campaign trail.

“I think it really gives Colorado an opportunity to stick a thumb in the eye of Mike Pence, whose view of America is not as inclusive as where America is today,” Polis said during a speech this year.

Polis is the first gay person elected to the position. Former New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey came out as gay while in office in 2004.
