Whats the purpose for taking folic acid by pregnant woman

The foetus grows very rapidly, especially in the early months of pregnancy. This rapids growth requires large amounts of essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals. One of these is folic acid. Folic acid is highly essential for normal development of various organ systems of the foetus, especially the brain and nervous system. Deficiency of folic acid can lead to underdevelopment of the foetal organs.

Folic acid, along with iron, is also essential for the mother to produce the increased number of red blood cells in her blood. This increased production is required to maintain oxygen delivery to the foetus.

Folic acid and iron are given to the mother in order to prevent deficiency of these substances and to thereby protect the foetus.

I keep Suffering from mouth ulcer Almost every month how can I prevent it, its just really painful

You may be suffering from a conditions called Aphthous ulcers. The cause of aphthous ulcers is not clearly known. It is known that there is a genetic basis for this. Stress can trigger the formation of these ulcers. Some individuals may suffer from aphthous ulceration due to an allergic reaction. This reaction may be to a new toothpaste, mouthwash or a food item. Vitamin B12, folate or iron deficiency is also known to cause aphthous ulceration. There are some major systemic disorders that can present with aphthous ulceration. Supplements of vitamin B12, folate and iron may relieve your problem. Try to figure out if there is any stressful event, foodstuff, or a certain toothpaste or mouthwash that triggers off the ulceration. Avoiding these can relieve your problem. If none of these work, you should consult your doctor for a more detailed workup to find out if there is any other cause for your ulcers. In the meantime, you should avoid spicy food during your attacks. Use of a pain relieving gel (commonly available as mouth ulcer gels) can temporarily relieve the pain you experience while eating.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth usually erupt in the later teenage years. By this time, the jaw bones are fully grown to their adult size. In many individuals. there is insufficient space for the wisdom teeth to erupt properly. This can cause the tooth to become impacted or to press upon the tooth in front of it, causing pain. Impacted wisdom teeth may need to be extracted to prevent complications. You must consult a dentist who will be able to evaluate if the wisdom tooth needs to be extracted.

What are frost bites?

Frost bite is death of tissue caused by exposure to cold. Upon exposure to cold, the initial reaction of the body is to increase blood flow to that area in order to keep it warm. Upon prolonged exposure to cold, the body tries to conserve heat for the vital organs by decreasing blood flow to the hands and legs. This can cause death of the tissue and is known as frost bite. In the initial stages, frost bite can be reversed by gradual warming of the affected parts. The body may then be able to revive or replace the dead tissue. In the more severe stages of frost bite, the tissue cannot be saved and amputation of the fingers, toes or even the arm or leg may be required to save the life of the patient.

A person with undetected viral load infect a negative person

Undetectable viral load means that the amount of virus in the blood is lower than the detection limit of the test. These days, tests can detect very low viral loads. Undetectable viral load _does not_ mean that the individual is HIV negative. Several studies have shown that individuals who are taking their Anti Retroviral drugs regularly, have an undetectable viral load and do not have any other sexually transmitted disease are essentially non-infective. However, it is good practice to use condoms at every act of sexual intercourse even if you have an undetectable viral load.

Can HIV be transmitted through baber shops

Razors are used for shaving in barber shops. Even if there are no evident cuts during shaving, there are always micro abrasions on the shaved skin. These abrasions or frank cuts on the skin can deposit blood and tissue fluid on the razor. If this blood contains HIV and the same razor is used on another person, HIV can be transmitted to that person. One should always insist on the use of a new razor blade for shaving in a barber shop. It is also preferable that the handle of the razor blade is disinfected before use.
