Touchy story

I decided to braid my hair in a roadside salon and while waiting for my turn as a few others came in before me, I noticed a woman loosing hers; the one helping her to undo the old braids was carefully keeping the attachment on a side desk.

I wondered why and what use the old attachments would be because I know they are usually thrown away.

They were done with loosing the client's hair and the other stylist asked her, "e go reach?" She replied, "I fit manage am". The owner of the beauty shop asked her, "Did you get permission from her?" (the client). She replied, "Yes ma". Another stylist interjected at once, " But your hair long na, you for just braid your hair".
The woman replied with a smile, "a new teaching job wey I manage get and dem say I must appear neat, how you want make I carry braid for one month before I see salary do better hair? Abeg e no good". Then she went in to wash the client's hair.

Well, I concluded that she was a new teacher on the job who couldn't afford a new attachment to make her hair so she decided to beg a customer to allow her to use her used attachment, and I found this funny, very funny indeed. I've never heard of such. I am used to the 'loose and throw away' practice but in this regard, what do I know? I learn every day.

The beauty shop owner was done with her customer and the customer left making it now my turn and we needed more than two hands to pep me up. The hair-making started at once and I tapped the woman making my hair and asked, "I'm sorry for disturbing but it seems your customer forgot to throw her attachment away". With a smile, she replied, "No ma she didn't, I pleaded with her to give it to me so I can use it to make mine". I was like, ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜” "oh, ok but sorry again, it is already used". "Yes ma", she replied, "it is and that's because I can't afford new ones for myself".

Drawn by compassion I took out some money from my bag and gave her to buy two packs of attachment for herself and make her hair.
She ran to her madam to tell her and came back kneeling in front of me in appreciation.
"Please don't kneel for me, I'm not God."

"You're welcome", she kept saying repeatedly, and, "You are embarrassing me", I said, jostling her to stop and be herself. She quickly ran off to buy the artificial hair and returned still genuflecting the more in a show of more appreciation.

I dozed off intermittently while still under the 'manipulating' hands of the stylists and once they were done putting my hair into a new look the other woman who came with her daughter to braid her school hair, asked me, "Sorry ma, are you a parent with ......... school?"
I replied, "Hope no problem?"๐Ÿ˜. She said, "None at all but when you walked in my daughter said she recognized you as the woman I've been looking for".
I was curious but replied, "Ok, I'm a businesswoman and a caterer what do you need me to sell to you?"
"Nothing," she said as she continued, "I sent my nanny to pick up my kids from school and I don't know how they fixed the eraser of a pencil into the nose of my toddler. I was told the nanny panicked and she tried her best to take it off but it stuck there. The driver tried and no way. She then ran into the school to the headmistress's office and she too was panicking and crying but a certain parent took my baby, calmed her down then sucked the item out of my baby's nose with her mouth".

She continued, "I have told the headmistress several times that I want to see this woman but I was told you traveled and that your nanny takes your kids. I requested your contact which they declined giving me with a reason that they needed to seek your permission before giving it to me. Later, I was told you instructed them not to give it to me and that they should tell me not to bother because you did what any mother would do. I was shocked because I am their mother and I can't suck my kid's nose. I prayed for you, oh, and when you walked in, my daughter shouted, 'mommy she's the one.'

"Please if you don't mind, let me pay for your hairdo, please, and today you must give me your contact. Please, God! So good people exist? Madam, I'm so grateful. Thank you!"

I was awe-stricken. This thing happened some two years ago...2016 to be exact.

The memory of the curious event played back as I stood looking into space.
I saw everyone at the office crying and shaking and shouting 'the blood of Jesus!'
"What happened?" I asked a teacher, "She was playing and put a pencil eraser in her nose", she said.
"Can I see her? I quipped. "Yes ma", replied the visibly shaken staff.

I took the baby from them and observed her closely. I saw what it was, and noticed it was deep into her nostril.
"Well", I found myself saying as I asked for some pieces of wipes which I used to wipe my lipstick then placed my mouth on her nose and sucked out the eraser.

Did it come out the first time? It didn't, but just some salty sticky semi-liquid substance. I sucked again and again and there seemed to be a shift and at the third time, it was out, into my mouth.

The onlookers were so happy that it sounded like a celebration of a sort.

Two years later I'm now friends with the mother who happened to be a wealthy successful business merchant. ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

Why am I relaying all these?
It costs us nothing to be kind. Keep sowing the seed of kindness and one day you'll reap it. Every day you go out, make one person smile.

The reason why by God's grace I am where I am even though I'm still hustling, is spreading and planting seeds of kindness. I used to be a nice person but I became addicted to being nicer after surviving a coma.

When you face death and win, then you will know there is nothing in this life. When we die, we go with nothing and only your good name will speak for you and your generations.

Being kind isn't expensive. Try selling it.

Whenever you hear stories like this, the first duty you owe your brain as a rational human being is to question the story thoroughly. I am not saying the story may not have happened, but when you rationally evaluate the merit of the story, you can then decide if the story is worth believing or not. I will give you the following guide.

1. She was reporting what her friend told her. So, the first thing that should register in your head is that the story is not from her. It is what Nigerians call "them-say-them say." In other words, she is not an eyewitness. You can't hold her story on the same level as you would an eyewitness.

 2. Even in the them-say-them-say. . . Three important pieces of information that are the pillars of the story were missing

A. The name of the Nigerian man deported. Who is he?
B. The name of the priest. Which Rev Father?
C. The parish where it happened. What is the name of the church and address?

Even if the three were not given, at least one might suffice. But none were given. So, how can you authenticate the story?

3. Based on the points above, your rational brain ought to be drawing a conclusion that the story is possibly a made-up story. Or, even if it is true, the story did not happen the way she narrated it. There could be some missing details just like how she chose not to reveal the identity of the 'three pillars' of the story. Maybe with those missing details, you might see the story differently.

Now, let us look at the story presented.

4. The sacrament of confession is different from a counselling session or a moment of discussion with a priest. You may come to me and discuss some of your personal stuff with me, but that does not make it a sacramental confession. If it is confession, which all Catholics know, the priest is bound by what is called a confessional seal. It means that whatever he hears in confession, is NEVER revealed even if you have a gun pointed at the priest's head. Even if the person who confessed the sins is dead.

So, in the story, I can almost with certainty tell you that even if what she narrated happened, it was never in the context of confession that the priest got to know his immigration status.

 5.  If you challenge my conclusion on point number 4, then I dare the lady or anyone, to provide the name of the priest and the parish. Once you do that, I will help write a petition to the priest's bishop.

This is because every priest is bound by confessional or sacramental Seal.

According to the church teaching in Canon 983.1,

“…It is a crime for a confessor in any way to betray a penitent by word or in any other manner or for any reason” (#2490).  A priest cannot break the seal to save his own life, to protect his good name, to refute a false accusation, to save the life of another, to aid the course of justice (like reporting a crime), or to avert a public calamity.  He cannot be compelled by law to disclose a person’s confession or be bound by any oath he takes, e.g. as a witness in a court trial.  A priest cannot reveal the contents of a confession either directly, by repeating the substance of what has been said, or indirectly, by some sign, suggestion, or action.

Therefore, from the time a person makes the sign of the cross and begins “Bless me Father for I have sinned” to the last words of absolution, the information exchanged between the priest and the penitent is protected by the sacramental seal.  Even if a confession is made in a less formal atmosphere or in a less formal way, if a priest imparts absolution, what he absolves is under the sacramental seal never to be revealed by him.

Now, following The Catechism of the Catholic church (#1467) and the Code of Canon Law (#1388.1) “A confessor who directly violates the seal of confession incurs an automatic excommunication."

The punishment is clear. You are suspended and excommunicated. So you see, what that lady is narrating is not a small or laughable story. It is not something you do just for content creation.

If it is investigated and discovered that the priest revealed what was told to him in confession, the priest loses his clerical state...he is automatically excommunicated. And if it is discovered that it is a made-up story, the lady faces sanctions for lying and deceiving people.

If you provide me with the details, I will follow the story up and make sure the Nigerian brother gets justice. The priest will be suspended and excommunicated automatically.

And if it is a made-up story, that lady will be arrested for deceiving people with lies.

In all these, it is the shower cap of the lady I found very funny because it made her head look like a frying pan.

History From the archives....Afikpo (Ehugbo)

History From the archives....

Afikpo (Ehugbo)

Afikpo is an ancient Igbo town in present-day Ebonyi state with history dating back to Neolithic Age 3000BC.

The oral historical accounts was told by chroniclers and elders.

According to Ottenberg and Ebonyi online, the present inhabitants are descendants of two groups, Nkalu and Ego(or Egu), who were the very first setlers at Afikpo.

Afikpo  owe its culture and tradition to Ego,the very first to settle. The leader of Ego was a man called  Anuma Ugwu, who settled  in an area now occupied  by Ezi ukaka Amaha Amaizu.Another tradition has it that the indiginous people of Afikpo went to war and defeated Ego (indiego) Who were originally Somewhere between Abakaliki and Ahoazara and took many of them prisoners to Afikpo.

According to research  done by Prof.   D.D Talbot in 1996 at Ezi Ukwu rockshelter Human settlement was dated between  5000BC to 3000BC.

Afikpo was an important trade route linking the non- igbo speaking people on the Cross-river with the hinterland igbos.

It has a famous Eke Ukwu market named after the day on which they meet and is also connected to other important market centres like Akpoha and Eke Imoha markets,Ahia okpu ugwueguelu,Ahia Ogo in Amachara,Ogbanja at Ndibe,Nkwo Ozizza in Ozizza, and they generally meet on different days on the four days of igbo week.people came from neighbouring communities like Edda, Ohafia ,Ikomoro and Enna Ohia to buy pottery, fish, salt and palm produce

""According to Ottenberg (1968 ) ,He noted that Afikpo traders were active, shipping yams and other foodstuffs and pottery (made by Afilkpo women)south and European goods north by Canoe"" .
Oral tradition  traces pottery  to Ego(indiego).Indiego were great artists, craftsmen and knew much about  pottery, blacksmithing, weaving and carving.

Those that settled at ohaozara were great blacksmithers, while those that moved to ishaigu  and afikpo were potters and carvers. The historical  linkages  between  Afikpo  and Ishiagu reveals the existence of identical  pottery  tradition  in Ishiagu and its believed to be same pottery  origin  that spread to Okigwe, Awgu, igbo ukwu.

THE FIRST RECORDED HUMAN VOICE IN HISTORY, 164 YEARS AGO

Exactly 164 years ago, on April 9, 1860, the earliest known intelligible recorded sound of a human voice was recorded when a
Frenchman ร‰douard-Lรฉon Scott de Martinville
recorded someone singing the song "Au Clair de la Lune" ("By the Light of the Moon") on the device known as phonautograph.

The device would play a role in the development of the gramophone by Emile Berliner.

Today, you need only a click, and your favourite music is playing. Each time you enjoy your music, drama, etc. on a recorded device, or any technology, remember that it was made possible by humans like you who discovered and developed their talents.

Even to date, people are still being born with talents and abilities that will solve most of the problems bothering us today.

This is why we need to make sure that every child attends a primary and secondary school. This is why we have to make sure that all our schools function properly.

Stop expecting God to do for you what he has given us the ability and resources to do. Anyone still saying 'receive your miracle' is nothing but an enemy of society.

Keep all children away from such people. Those whose brains have been completely damaged by such people can continue visiting them, but please keep your children and all children away from them.

There are still millions of devices waiting for us to discover them.

HOLY SPIRIT, ENLIGHTEN, AND SANCTIFY US"

⏰Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter (09 April 2024)

๐Ÿ“•Acts 4:32-37; Ps 93:1abc, 1c-2, 5 (R.v.1a); John 3:7b-15

๐ŸŽค"HOLY SPIRIT, ENLIGHTEN, AND SANCTIFY US"

Do you really understand this drama between Jesus and Nicodemus? Consider what Jesus said to him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this?" (John 3:10).

Notice that Jesus did not call Nicodemus a teacher of the Jews but Israel. Israel is the identity of the chosen people of God, whereas 'Jews' refer to a race. The Pharisees claim to uphold the Laws of Moses and save it from adulteration. The Laws and the Prophets are the major components of the Hebrew Bible, which the Jews believe would lead them to God.

Hence, we see the Johannine Irony (a major character of the Gospel of John) at play in Jesus' question to Nicodemus above. Well, the report that Nicodemus came to Jesus at night already points to the fact of him being in the darkness of knowledge.

As a teacher of the people of God, he ought to have known better about the things of God, but he didn't. But the message that Jesus came with is not a canal message but one that needs the Spirit for its articulation. Anyone who wants to understand must possess the Spirit.

We, too, are leaders of God's people in our different capacities as pastors, parents, civil leaders, school teachers, etc. People look up to us to lead them to the glory of God.

Unity and mutual love are some of the ways to give God that glory, as we see from Acts 4:32-37.

Do you really understand what your role is? Do you rely on your human intelligence alone, or have you asked for the assistance of the Holy Spirit?

May God assist us not to mislead the people who are looking up to us for guidance. Amen.

Have a fruitful day under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.
