THE IMPERFECT WIVES
A Short Moral Story.
Oscar and Luke were brothers who lived in seperate homes in the same city. They both married their wives in the same year. Oscar had been living happily with his wife for eight years, and they had two sons together. However, Luke had been married three times, but none of his marriages worked. He divorced all his wives.
He first married Liza, with whom they lived for two years. One day, he said to Liza.
"You spend too much and it makes me angry. We are in debt and you continue to spend everything we have. You're constantly planning on the next thing to buy. I can't put up with this marriage anymore!".
Shortly after he divorced Liza, he married Maureen. They lived together for three years. Until one day, after an argument, he told her.
"You don't have any respect for me. You always interrupt me. You don't listen to me. You speak in a derogatory manner to me. And you never put your phone down. I want a divorce!".
He married Sandra few months after his divorce with Maureen. Just like the other marriages, it crashed two years later. He divorced Sandra because of her cats.
"Your cats are a nuisance ever since we got married and they have ruined my shirts and peed on the floor wherever they like. I can't take this anymore. Throw them out or we end this marriage!". he had said angrily. When Sandra refused to do away with her cats, he sent her packing.
Ever since Luke divorced his third wife, he felt miserable, lonely and hopeless. He began to feel ashamed of himself. One day, he visited his brother, Oscar, and said to him privately.
"Why is it that I can't find a good wife? Why didn't any of my marriages work out? Look at you... you've got a lovely wife. You've been married for a long time and still live happily together. Why can't I find a wife like yours who is perfect?".
Oscar went on smiling for a moment, and then he said something very profound and interesting.
"Listen, if you keep on looking for a perfect partner, you're always going to be alone. You always want to find good people and leave the bad ones. But I find the good in people and ignore the bad in them. My wife is not perfect, I just ignore the bad in her. Nobody is perfect, not even you. We all have flaws, weaknesses and limitations. When two people work hard to achieve mutual happiness, dealing with all the ups and downs life throws at you... when two people understand each other, care for each other, spend time with each other, and take care of small things, it is called a happy, a healthy and a good marriage. Maybe you should stop looking for perfection".
Luke went back home and pondered on what his brother had said. He felt as though he had wasted many of his years trying to find a perfect wife. He married Anna a year later and they lived happily ever after.
Moral: Nobody in this world is perfect, and if we can understand this fact, we wouldn't hurt either anyone or ourselves by expecting a lot of perfection from others.
