The Igbo community in Calabar, Cross River State capital, have resolved their leadership tussle that had lingered for 28 years.
The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ugoji Nwabueze disclosed this on Saturday at the Ndi Igbo 28th anniversary in Calabar.
He said, “In the past 28 years, we have not been able to gather under the State platform in whatever name to celebrate our day.
“This was largely due to crisis generated by some communities over the control of the leadership of the apex body in the state. Those behind the crisis were enemies of peace, progress of Ndi Igbo.
“Today’s celebration is to put our host communities on notice that Igbos in the state are united and that from now on we shall collectively be speaking with one voice, intent and purpose,” he said.
Nwabueze explained that the crisis had its consequential effects. “We were no longer united to the extent that we distanced ourselves from our host communities and even government.
“With this celebration today, all that has come to be history. As a prelude to the ceremony, we have visited the leadership of our host communities in Calabar and its environs and assured them of our utmost respect for traditional institutions and rule of law.”
