Republicans will keep control of the Senate, while Democrats are in position to seize the House majority.
Rep. Kevin Cramer (R) has defeated Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), the Associated Press has projected, blocking Democrats from gaining control of the Senate. Heitkamp, widely considered one of the most vulnerable Democrats up for reelection, drew both criticism and millions in donations after she voted against the confirmation of Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Democrats flipped House seats in Florida, Pennsylvania, Kansas and New York, putting them on a path to regaining the House majority that they lost in the 2010 election. A number of races in Virginia, Illinois and Michigan were still undecided.
