Is alcohol needed in the body️

The body _does not require alcohol_ for any purpose. Alcohol is said to contain “empty calories”. This means that while alcohol contains almost 7 calories per gram, these calories are devoid of any vitamins or minerals that are available in other foods. Due to the high calorific content of alcohol, it prevents the utilisation of fat in the body. This could lead to obesity. The social and addictive ill-effects of alcohol are well known. Occasional consumption of alcohol in the form of moderate social drinking may have some recreational value. From a medical standpoint, alcohol is useless as far as bodily functions are concerned.
