Otitis Media

Otitis media is a condition where there is inflammation in the middle ear. The middle ear is that part of the ear beyond the ear drum which contains three tiny bones that help in hearing. This condition most commonly occurs due to infection in the middle ear. Otitis media can cause collection of fluid or pus in the middle ear cavity. This can cause loss of hearing. Continued accumulation of fluid or pus can increase the pressure in the middle ear cavity and can even cause perforation of the ear drum. Otitis media will require specialised treatment by an ENT specialist. You may require prolonged antibiotics and continued follow up, especially if perforation of the ear drum has occurred.
